Hola Amigos,
Fishing down on the East Cape continues to impress. The bite has not slowed down since mid May and as we head into the peak summer months, we expect it might even get better. The weather has been heating up as too has the water temps in the area. The day time high has been in the low to mid 90’s with water temps. in the low 80’s.
We had two great groups at Hotel Palmas De Cortez the past two week. First with the Father, Son and Buddies tournament which came in with 42 anglers this year. The group had some fantastic fishing over three days landing 75 Marlin, 1 Sailfish, 12 Dorado, 100 Yellowfin Tuna and 1 Wahoo. The largest dorado weighed in at 47.6 lbs. and the largest Wahoo weighed in at 54 lbs. Next year’s tournament will be the groups 20th anniversary and will have 138 anglers participating.
The Roy Clark Billfish tournament arrived right after the FS&B tournament departed and they continued to have great fishing for their three day tournament. 24 anglers fish for three days in 2 man teams and landed 1 Swordfish, 4 Blue Marlin, 49 Stripe Marlin and 1 dorado weighing in at 51.2 lbs.
Meanwhile over at Playa Del Sol, one of the longest running groups at Van Wormer Resorts, the Southern California Tuna Club came to fish over 4 days. This is a fun group comprised of Fathers and their children of all ages. 47 anglers fishing over 4 days landed plenty of tuna, dorado, marlin, rooster and more. No official fish counts were given by the group, but a great time was had by all. The group has already secured the entire hotel for next year’s group.
Here are some of the highlights from the past few weeks at Van Wormer Resorts.
